Wireless Networking Security
Wireless Networking Security – A Guide
Some organizations don’t understand the importance of a properly wireless networking security when they install WAP (Wireless Access Points). There is very little protection, it is vulnerable when attackers achieve wireless access to your network, and they are behind your firewall. In many instances the security policy on a company’s wireless network is like a house does not have a front door.
WEP (Wireless Encrypted Protocol) is the first security standard developed for WAP. Older WAP and insufficient understanding of network administrator will use this method to protect the wireless network.
Analogy with the front door, such as the WEP screen door, locks the house and gives a key to everyone who visited. The wireless industry developed WAP (Wi-Fi Protected Access) as standard security to overcome the problems of the WEP. Administrators must have a reasonable upgrade path to improve security, as WPA was intended to be backwards well-matched with WEP access cards.
A WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) has just been released to tackle the reality. What is new in WPA2, there is a user authentication and stronger encryption.
If you are planning to obtain a new access point, make sure that it is certainly sustain the WPA standard. If there no other choice and you must use a WAP that utilizes WEP or WPA standards, you do not have to worry there are some other methods that will help you make more secure networking.
